چکیده

The theoretical performance of ionic-liquid(IL-) based working fluids in an absorption refrigeration system was investigated. The IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) and five hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) were selected as the absorbent and refrigerant, respectively. The Redlich−Kwong equation of state and two-phase pressure-drop model were used to compute the thermodynamic conditions and performance of the working-fluid pairs. The effects of the desorber and absorber temperatures, solution heat exchanger, and accessibility of waste heat on the system performance were evaluated. R152a showed the highest coefficient of performance, 57.3, when the desorber operated on waste heat only and the desorber and absorber were operated at 373.15 and 300.65 K, respectively. The friction-loss component of the total pumping work was below 2.5% of the pumping work for all refrigerants.

Thermodynamic analysis of an absorption refrigeration system with ionic-liquid/refrigerant mixture as a working fluid

Thermodynamics of an ionic-liquid (IL) based absorption refrigeration system has been numerically analyzed. It provides an alternative to the normally toxic working fluids, such as the ammonia in conventional absorption systems. The use of ILs also eliminates crystallization and metal-compatibility problems of the water/LiBr system. Mixtures of refrigerants and imidazolium-based ILs are theoret...

Exergy Analysis of an Absorption Refrigeration System Using an Iconic Liquid as a Working Fluid in the Chemical Compressor

The first and second law of thermodynamics are applied to an ionic-liquid (IL) based absorption refrigeration system for high power electronics cooling. The IL is a salt in a liquid state usually with an organic cation and inorganic anion. It provides an alternative to the normally toxic working fluids used in the chemical compression loop, such as ammonia in conventional absorption systems. Th...

Mathematical Method and Thermodynamic Approaches to Design Multi-Component Refrigeration Used in Cryogenic Process Part I: Optimal Operating Conditions

Abstract: Minimizing the work consumed in refrigeration system is the most effective measure to reduce the cost of products in sub-ambient chemical processes. The introduction of mixed working fluids into refrigeration system in place of pure working fluids is a recent advancement applied in the field. Due to the lack of systematic design method for Mixed Refrigerant Cycle (MRC), conventional a...

New Solvent Systems for Distillation and Absorption Intensification

Solvents with an improved price/performance ratio allow for processes with less operating and/or capital expenditure. Therefore, from an industrial perspective, it is worth reviewing the R&D progress in designing new competitive solvents on a regular basis. This paper aims at discussing the potential of new solvent systems applicable as absorbents or entrainers for boosting the performance of a...

Advanced Analysis of Dew Point Control Unit of Hybrid Refrigeration Systems in Gas Refineries

In this paper, an advanced analysis of a novel hybrid compression-absorption refrigeration system (HCARS) for natural gas dew point control unit in a gas refinery is presented. This unit separates the heavy hydrocarbon molecules in the natural gas, which is traditionally carried out by natural gas cooling in a compression refrigeration cycle (CRS). The power input required for the refrigeration...
